Alcova Heights is a beautiful neighborhood in south Arlington. It is bounded on the north by Arlington Boulevard, the east by Glebe Road, the south by Columbia Pike and the west by George Mason Drive. Comprised mostly of owner occupied, single family homes along streets with mature trees, it has many unique features. Within its borders are two condominiums, Dundree Knolls and Stratton House, and a recent development of 23 townhouses along Columbia Pike between Quincy and Randolph Streets known as Alcova Row. There are also several churches, a Salvation Army meeting hall, Arlington County Fire Station #1, and the Foreign Service’s Training Center at Arlington Hall. Additionally, Arlington County maintains Alcova Heights Park within the borders of Alcova Heights. This park is a gathering place for neighbors during events like the neighborhood Halloween parade, National Night Out and Christmas Caroling Bonfire.

Since the neighborhood was developed over many years, the types of single family homes available vary widely. There are many Craftsmen, Bungalow and National style homes in a variety of exterior materials. Ramblers, Colonials, Cape Cods and Contemporary styles are also represented. (Link to Housing Styles section) There are at least two confirmed Sears houses in the neighborhood. Semi-detached homes, townhouses and the apartment buildings of Stratton House Condominium are also Alcova Heights housing choices. Walk down any of the tree lined streets and you will identify most all of the major styles of homes.
There is an active Alcova Heights Civic Association which meets bi-monthly, sponsors community activities and is the focus group for community action plans. They maintain a web site, publish a newsletter and are the official spokes-group to Arlington County government. The combination of this community’s spirit, unique and varied architecture, and abundant greenery have made Alcova Heights a very desirable place to call home.
